After we were done,
I stood
and looked at myself
long
in the mirror.
The lines under my eyes
were more pronounced
than they had ever been,
my eyes
themselves,
had lost
a bit of their luster.
I looked down at my hands
as the cold water
from the sink
ran over them.
I could not even feel
it,
were my hands
colder?
A long sigh
escaped my cracked lips,
and I wondered
how many times
we are willing
to forgive someone
simply because we
are terribly afraid
of losing them,
even if somewhere,
deep down,
we know
that they do not deserve
the forgiveness
of a good heart.
