Let me tell you a little known secret about happiness.
It isn’t some arbitrary point in time. It doesn’t happen after you get that car,
or land that job, or buy that house. It doesn’t happen after days on end of sadness or pain, simply because Life thinks that you’ve had enough. The problem with thinking that way is there will always be something to replace it. “I’ll be happy tomorrow” has killed more people than anyone with a gun.
Happiness, true happiness, is a choice. A willingness to see the joy and beauty in all things. And as it turns out, the purest form of happiness lies in the small things. That first fresh press of your favorite coffee, your dog that doesn’t know what to stop barking, the way he holds you and tightens his embrace just before it ends, the way she says your name. It’s homemade dinner, a new book, an old friend, a familiar face, a comforting laugh.
Happiness is all around you. You just have to choose to see it.

A thought-provoking take on the concept. Do you think happiness is a state of being or a moment in time? I find the latter more likely, since you really can’t be happy all the time. If you were, it would dilute the emotional rush. Humans exist in an equilibrium, your perspective on what’s pleasurable is fluid. You’re right that you won’t find happiness in accomplishments, that’s joy, I think.
But I question if it’s something so easily obtained. Actively seeking happiness may not be the best route to the destination, especially if you fail time and again. Maybe you’re someone who punishes yourself for failing. It feels complicated.
Either way, keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! I would say that happiness is indeed a state of being. It isn’t necessarily something you actively seek, but rather, shifting your mind to be in a state of awareness of the things that make you happy, and surround yourself with them. Thank you for comment!
